Featured Resident of the Month Mary Mikels

This month, we’re proud to spotlight Mary Mikels, a beloved resident at Traditions of Lafayette who has quickly become a familiar face around the community. Mary has called Traditions home for four months and was drawn to the community’s cleanliness, friendly atmosphere, thoughtful layout, and beautiful walking areas.

“Mary is a delightful person.  She is kind to everyone she meets, has a wonderful sense of humor, and is always advocating for her fellow residents.  Mary is kind to our staff and engages with everyone that crosses her path.  She is a constant smiling face at Traditions of Lafayette, and we appreciate her!” – Tiffany Tribble, Lafayette ED

Born in Park County, Indiana, Mary spent much of her childhood in Danville, Illinois, before returning to Indiana at age 12.

Family has always been at the center of Mary’s life. She and her husband have been married for 62 years and together raised three sons. Today, she enjoys spending time with her growing family, which includes six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Before retiring, Mary dedicated herself to caring for her family as a stay-at-home wife and mother. She also worked part-time as a paraprofessional and kitchen cook at Battleground Elementary School and as a waitress in Crawfordsville.

When asked about a hidden talent, Mary shared that she used to sing in her church choir. These days, she enjoys reading and staying active by taking walks around the Traditions property.

One of Mary’s favorite things about community life is mealtime. While she enjoys all the meals served at Traditions, she especially loves the macaroni salad.

As the fourth of six children, Mary grew up alongside four brothers and one sister, helping shape the strong family values and warm personality she brings to our community today. We are grateful to have Mary as part of the Traditions family and look forward to many more walks, conversations, and memories together.
